Advanced Recycling Australia

We established Advanced Recycling Australia to commercialise our pioneering Cat-HTRTM advanced recycling solution for plastic in Australia.

We have recently concluded an extensive feasibility study into establishing a local advanced recycling industry. The report is available here.

The study identified a site in Altona (Victoria) for the first Australian Cat-HTR™ facility. Licella is deeply committed to community consultation regarding the proposed Cat-HTR™ facility. Licella, under Advanced Recycling Victoria, is in consultation with Hobsons Bay Council, as well as local community groups, about the proposed facility and the opportunities it can deliver to the community, with many new jobs and associated economic activity created as a result.

In addition, Licella has a strong workplace safety culture and will ensure similar best practices are used within this facility.

2021 Report: Plastic Waste – Advanced Recycling Feasibility Study, Geelong-Altona Industrial Corridor

Licella, supported by Amcor, Coles, iQ Renew, LyondellBasell, and Nestlé, have released a report highlighting the potential for establishing a local circular economy for soft plastic, with a focus on difficult to mechanically recycle plastic such as food packaging.

The proposed advanced recycling facility would use Licella’s Australian-developed Cat-HTR™ technology at its core.

The study found that using the oil created from waste plastic, in the local plastic packaging supply chain, delivers a 64% CO2 reduction compared to crude oil.

It is an opportunity to establish Australia as a leader in this emerging new industry. It would provide a boost to local industry, with the potential to create over 300 new jobs in Victoria over the next five years, and could contribute over $100 million a year to the Victorian economy.

The report comes as a result of a feasibility study that demonstrated a circular economy for plastic is not only possible, but is essential for Australia to meet its National Waste Policy commitments.
