Technology

Marine biofuel

The shipping industry is responsible for 2-3% of global CO2 emissions, and 4-9% of global SOx emissions. The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) has set a firm target for full-scale decarbonisation by 2050, with a 20% emissions reduction by 2030, and a 70% reduction by 2040.

In addition, stricter regulations on the sulfur content of marine fuels is driving increased demand for sustainable fuels within the sector. The bio-intermediate from our Cat-HTRTM HTL process is very low-sulfur, supporting a clean energy transition for the global shipping industry.

The global demand for SAF is set to grow exponentially. By 2050, it is projected to reach 90% of all jet fuel.
